UWF is going Division I. NIL decides how fast we rise.
On April 2, 2026, the UWF Board of Trustees unanimously approved the move to NCAA Division I. Beginning Fall 2026, the Argonauts compete in the ASUN Conference and the United Athletic Conference for football.
The three-year transition through 2029 is the most critical recruiting window in program history — and modern recruiting runs on NIL. Peer ASUN and UAC programs already have collectives. Now the Argonauts do too.

West Florida has a tradition of building champions — national titles, conference banners, and a fanbase that fills Pen Air Field. Those champions move the Gulf Coast economy: game days, jobs, local business, and a bigger stage for the city. NIL is now part of that impact, and a strong collective is what keeps champion-level athletes in Argo blue.

Since 2021, student-athletes can earn from their name, image, and likeness — social posts, appearances, autograph signings, endorsements. Before that, they couldn't accept a free meal. For many Argonauts, NIL is the difference between working a second job and focusing on school and sport.
